SASSA SRD R370 Application 2026: Apply, Reapply and Check Status

Do your SASSA SRD R370 application in 2026: who qualifies, how the R624 means test works, how to reapply, and how to check your status online.

New SRD applications are open in 2026, and the SASSA SRD R370 grant pays R370 per month. A first SASSA SRD application costs nothing at srd.sassa.gov.za. You qualify if you are between 18 and 59, have no paid work, and have an income under R624 a month.

The 370 application process covers an automated means test, the form itself, the errors that block people, reapplication when a file lapses, and the status check. This page is an independent information guide, not a government page.

Is the grant still taking new applications in 2026?

Yes. SASSA is still accepting first-time applicants in 2026, and the October 2026 budget documents confirm the extension for a further year past March 2027.

The amount has not changed. The old R350 application paid R350 until 31 March 2024. From 1 April 2024 the new R370 grant pays R370 every month, and it stays at that level.

Each month is its own application cycle. SASSA reviews your file again, so the status can change from one month to the next. The steps to apply for R350 and for R370 use the same form.

Who can apply for the SASSA SRD R370 grant in 2026?

The grant is open to South African citizens, permanent residents, refugees and asylum seekers. You need a valid South African ID number or a recognised permit, and income within the SRD means-test threshold of R624 per month, as well as the other eligibility conditions.

Full eligibility checklist

  • You are between 18 and 59 years old. Anyone 60 and over belongs on the Older Persons Grant.
  • You have a 13-digit South African ID number, or a permit as a refugee or an asylum seeker.
  • You are unemployed, with no job or business.
  • Your income is under the R624 threshold.
  • You hold no SASSA social grant in your own name.
  • You are not funded by NSFAS.
  • You are not drawing UIF.
  • You have a phone with an active SIM that can receive SMS.

The online eligibility questions are only part of the check. SASSA then runs an automated means test across government databases to check whether your answers are correct.

Who cannot get the R370 grant

You cannot get the grant if any of these apply.

  • You already draw a SASSA social grant in your own name, such as a Disability Grant, an Older Persons Grant or a Foster Child Grant.
  • You are registered on NSFAS.
  • You earn money from a job or a business.
  • You are a UIF contributor, or you are claiming from the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
  • Your bank deposits are above R624 in a month.
  • You are younger than 18, or 60 and over.

Do you qualify? The means test questions

You qualify if nothing comes in above R624 per month and no other grant or fund pays you. The form checks that with six short questions.

Employment status

Are you working for an employer, running your own business, or out of work? Answer plainly. The system compares your reply with government databases (SARS, Home Affairs, the Unemployment Insurance Fund and NSFAS) and with your banking records, so a guess will be caught.

Income

Is money arriving above R624 per month? Salary, wage income, a piece job and rent from a room all count.

UIF

Do you pay into UIF, or are you drawing from it? An active UIF status usually blocks payment for that month.

NSFAS

Are you getting money through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme? An NSFAS status showing you as registered stops the SRD grant.

Existing grants

Do you already receive another SASSA social grant in your own name? If so, you cannot get an SRD grant on top of it.

Government support

Do you get financial help from another government programme? Declare it. A mismatch found later is far worse than a truthful answer now.

Ready to apply?

If your answers raise no problems, go straight to the portal. If one of them is a problem, deal with that first. The SASSA appeal route exists for declines that got the facts wrong.

How to send the SASSA SRD R370 application online in 2026

You do the whole SASSA online application yourself on your phone at srd.sassa.gov.za, and it is free.

The SASSA apply 370 online application is the same form for a first-time applicant and for someone reapplying. The steps are:

  1. Open srd.sassa.gov.za. That is the official link and the only one to trust.
  2. Use the Choose Language box to pick English or your own language.
  3. Choose the option that matches your ID. Pick South African ID Holder if you have a green ID book or a smart ID card. Pick Asylum Seeker / Special Permit Holder if you hold a permit instead.
  4. Type your 13-digit South African ID number exactly as it appears on your original ID document. Then type a 10-digit South African mobile number that belongs to you.
  5. A one-time PIN (OTP) arrives by SMS. Type it in on the authentication page. If you land on srd.sassa.gov.za/auth, you are at that step and still on the right site.
  6. Tick Declaration and Consent. This is what allows the Home Affairs identity check and the rest of the automated means test.
  7. Answer the means test questions honestly.
  8. Pick your payment method: Bank Transfer (Recommended) or CashSend / Retail Collection.
  9. Read it over, submit, and write down the application reference number. An SMS confirmation follows.

There are no document uploads in this form, and you do not need to queue at a SASSA office. The system fetches what it needs from the databases it can already see.

Is srd.sassa.gov.za the official link?

Yes. It sits on the srd.sassa.gov.za domain, the only .gov.za address used for this grant. The SC19 name comes from Section 19. That rule is in the Social Assistance Act 13 of 2004, which allows a short-term grant for people in real need.

What happens once the form is in?

Your file shows Pending while an automated means test runs against Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, NSFAS and your banking records.

You get an SMS notification each time the file moves. You can also check your SASSA status whenever you like at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.

How long until the first answer?

SASSA has not published a fixed number of days for a new file. Banking details take 3 to 7 working days to verify, and the status page refreshes every month, usually between the 10th and the 20th. During busy periods the queue is longer, so do not send a second SASSA SRD application while the first one is still live.

How do I know whether the application worked?

The status page shows Approved, a payment date appears next to it, and an SMS follows. If it shows Declined, the decline reason is printed on that same screen, and you have 90 days to appeal.

What does an appeal outcome look like?

Appeal decision times vary. Check your submitted month on the official portal; see our appeal timing guidance for the distinction between submission deadlines and processing targets.

What does "Reapplication Pending" mean?

It means the months your old file covered have closed, and SASSA needs you to confirm that you still qualify before it can review your file again. It is not a decline.

You may also see Application Expired. The period has lapsed, and you need to send a fresh SRD reapplication.

How to do an SRD reapplication

  1. Return to srd.sassa.gov.za and look for the reapply option.
  2. Use the same ID number and your registered SASSA phone number, then confirm with an OTP.
  3. Answer the means test questions again, honestly. It is a new check, so do not copy your last answers.
  4. Confirm your banking details and update them if your bank or account changed.
  5. Submit, keep the new application reference number, and check your status after a few working days.

This is the same SASSA reapplication for R350 users that people did before April 2024. Only the amount changed.

Are backdated payments automatic?

Backdated payments are not automatic, and SASSA has not confirmed that a gap month gets paid later. If a month was approved and never paid, query it with your reference number and a bank statement instead of filing again.

How to check my SASSA status in 2026

Open srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status, type your 13-digit ID number and the phone number on your file, and your application status appears on one screen.

Use that same page for a SASSA status check in 2026. It is the only thing that tells you where your own file really stands.

Check your status

Have your ID number ready and the phone in your hand. SASSA sends the verification request to the number it already holds.

Other ways to reach SASSA

  • WhatsApp (Official): 082 046 8553. Tap the WhatsApp link and the chat opens. Send "Hi" to begin. SRD queries only.
  • Toll-Free Helpline: 0800 60 10 11, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

What each status means

StatusWhat it tells you
PendingYour file is in the queue. You do not need to do anything; just wait.
ApprovedYou qualify for that month, and a payment date is shown next to it.
DeclinedYou did not qualify that month. The reason is shown, and you have 90 days to appeal.
Reapplication PendingThe old months have closed, and you must confirm that you still qualify.
Application ExpiredThe old period has fully lapsed. Send a fresh application.
Bank Details PendingThe account is still being checked, usually for 3 to 7 working days.
Identity Verification FailedThe Home Affairs match failed. Check your 13 digits again or follow the identity verification link.

Which payment method should you choose?

CashSend and a bank transfer both work, but Bank Transfer is the option most people should take because the money goes straight into an account in your own name.

Banking details

Bank Transfer (Recommended) needs an account in your own name, plus your branch code, account number and account type (Cheque or Savings). It works with all major SA banks, including Capitec and TymeBank.

CashSend / Retail Collection pays you at a till. You get a collection PIN by SMS and collect the cash at Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay or Boxer. You need an active SIM to receive that SMS, and queues are long at the start of the pay window.

Your payment method stays with your application. To change it later, update it in the banking section on the homepage at srd.sassa.gov.za. Our banking details guide shows which field takes which value.

Unsure of your branch code? Read it off your bank statement. A branch code table from your own bank beats a guess, and a wrong branch code is one of the most common reasons a payment fails.

Common SASSA SRD application errors

Six problems block most applications, and each one has a way out.

Your ID Number Is Already Registered

This is the Duplicate Application Error screen: the ID number is already on a live file. Often that file is your own earlier one. Check your status before doing anything else, and reapply only if the status tells you to. If the file is not yours, report it.

Application Portal Not Available or SASSA Website Down

That is traffic or system maintenance, so your details are not the problem. Try again in off-peak hours. If it is down for scheduled maintenance, it is usually back within 24 hours. Contact SASSA if it is still down after that.

OTP Verification Failed or Phone Number Does Not Match

The one-time PIN goes to the number on your file. If you have swapped SIM cards, the OTP will never reach you. Put the registered SASSA phone number back in your phone, or update the number on the portal. On a dual-SIM phone, check which SIM card is set to receive SMS.

Identity Verification Failed or Home Affairs Check Failed

Your ID number did not match the Home Affairs record. Type the 13 digits again slowly. If it still fails, follow the identity verification link in the SMS, or take your original ID document to a SASSA office for in-person biometric verification. Some records only clear once biometric data has been captured.

Account Validation Failed

SASSA could not confirm the bank account. Check the account number, the branch code and the account type. The account must be in your own name, not a parent's or a friend's, and it must not be dormant.

Banking Details Error During Application

This one appears while you are still on the form. A wrong account number, a wrong branch code or a dormant account will trigger it. You can leave banking for later and add it once the account is active.

SASSA payment dates for late 2026

November 2026 is the next pay month, and the Older Persons grant is set for Friday 30 October 2026.

For the current payment schedule, see SASSA payment dates. Your own SRD payment date must be checked on your status record.

The 4 November local government elections fall in that same week. SRD pays within its own window, roughly the 21st to the 30th, in one payment batch each month.

About this site

SassaCheck is an independent information guide to the SASSA SRD grant. We are not affiliated with SASSA or the government and cannot change a status or hurry a payment along.

We only ask for your ID number and cellphone number in the status check form, to fetch your status from SASSA, without saving the raw ID or cellphone number in our application database. Security hashes and operational logs are retained separately; see our data-handling explanation. We check everything here against SASSA's own sources and update it every month, so the figures match the current application cycle. Page status: Updated monthly.

The grant is a set of once-off payments, one for each month you qualify. It is not a salary and it is not guaranteed forever.

What else do applicants ask about the R370 grant?

Most of it comes down to timing: whether the file is open, how long the wait is, and what to do when a status looks stuck.

Can someone who has never applied still send a file in 2026?

Yes. First-time applicants are still accepted in 2026, and the grant itself runs past March 2027. You need a valid South African ID number or permit, no income above R624 per month, and no other grant in your own name.

What happened to my old R350 file when the R370 grant started?

SASSA carried over approved R350 beneficiaries automatically. You keep the same reference number, the same registered phone number and the same banking details, and the amount moved to R370 from 1 April 2024.

Does a Child Support Grant for my child block the SRD grant?

No. A Child Support Grant is paid for the child, not to you as a grant holder, so it can sit alongside an SRD grant. Any grant paid in your own name, such as a Disability Grant or an Older Persons Grant, does block it.

Do I need my own bank account before I apply?

No. You can choose CashSend / Retail Collection instead and collect the cash with a collection PIN at a till. That said, Bank Transfer is recommended because the money reaches your own account and there is no queue.

Can I do this at a SASSA office instead of online?

The online form is the main route, but an office can help if you are stuck. Take your original ID document, your phone number and your banking details. Offices are open Mon-Fri 8am-4pm.

My status says cancelled. Can I try again?

Usually yes, if you still meet the eligibility rules. Check the reason first. If the file was cancelled because you asked for it, or because something on it was wrong, fix that and send a new application. If it was cancelled over suspected fraud, speak to SASSA before you file again.

How long does a new SASSA SRD application take to process?

SASSA has not published a fixed number of days. Banking checks take 3 to 7 working days, and SASSA updates the status once a month, usually from the 10th to the 20th, so the first clear answer often appears at that monthly update.

How do I know the application went through?

You get an SMS confirmation and an application reference number at the end of the form. Keep that number. A SASSA status check with your ID number and phone number will then show Pending, Approved or Declined.

When does the SRD money pay out for November 2026?

SASSA has not released the SRD date for November 2026 yet. The grant pays within a window of about the 21st to the 30th each month, and the exact date appears on your status page once SASSA loads it.

The portal will not load. What now?

See the current guidance on USSD and official support options.

Eligibility sources

The income threshold is R624 per month; having no income is not the only qualifying situation. Other conditions also apply. See the official explanation of the R624 threshold and SASSA’s January 2026 eligibility clarification.
