SASSA News & Updates 2026: SRD R370 Grant Alerts and Dates

SRD R370 and R350 news for 2026: payment dates, gold card swap to the Postbank Black Card, appeals and status checks. An independent guide.

The SRD R370 grant, which people still search for as R350, pays R370 a month to people aged 18 to 59 whose income is R624 a month or less. You can see your status and your payment date free on SASSA's own page, https://srd.sassa.gov.za/ and it works on any phone.

SASSA News & Updates is written by SassaCheck Editorial. We are an independent guide, separate from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and from any government site. We follow SASSA media statements, government publications and verified South African news outlets. This page carries SASSA News & Updates 2026 as news breaks: payment date changes, urgent alerts and policy updates. When SASSA has not confirmed something, we say so.

Respond to a verification notice

If SASSA specifically requests e-Life Certification, follow the timeframe in that notice. It is a beneficiary-verification process; it is not a new SRD grant or an automatic step for every status check. SASSA’s explanation of e-Life Certification describes the online service and when beneficiaries must respond.

Do not assume every late payment is a certification problem. Read your own notice and status record, and contact SASSA if the required action is unclear.

September 2026: what was confirmed and what has passed

September 2026 has ended, so use these dates only to check that your September money reached you.

The case at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein

Court and policy news can affect future rules, but this page does not assert an unverified judgment or an automatic change to your eligibility. Read your current status and the latest official notice.

Current September 2026 payment dates (now passed)

The SASSA payment dates for September 2026 followed the usual order. The Older Persons Grant went out on 2 September, the Disability Grant on 3 September, and Children's Grants on 4 September. Accounts under review were paid on 7 September, and SRD R370 moved in rolling batches from around 24 September.

Heritage Day changes: 24 September 2026 was a public holiday. SRD batches rolled around that day, so some people saw their money only after the long weekend.

Check card validity and replacement arrangements

Confirm whether your card is valid and where replacements are available directly with Postbank before travelling. We do not publish an unverified nationwide Gold Card deadline. A card-access problem alone does not establish that your SRD application has been cancelled.

Confirm replacement locations and opening times

Card-replacement locations and weekend opening times can change. Confirm the current location and hours with Postbank before making a trip; this page does not claim that a particular Saturday service is still available.

June 2026 updates you may still need

June 2026 brought the July schedule, more card-swap warnings, and simple fixes for two payment problems that still come up.

July 2026 payment dates and the staggered three-day rollout

SASSA confirmed the July 2026 grant payment dates using the standard staggered three-day rollout cycle: Older Persons first, then Disability, then Children's Grants. The staggered three-day rollout keeps queues smaller and gives each grant its own day.

Shoprite CashSend vouchers and PIN errors at the till

Some people who chose Shoprite CashSend vouchers hit PIN errors when paying at the shop. Most PIN errors at the till have a self-service fix, so you do not need to queue at a SASSA office.

Banking details update: how long it takes

Verification of a banking details update sent through srd.sassa.gov.za usually takes about 3 to 7 working days. The update must pass the system verification process before money goes to the new account. Plan ahead and allow up to 30 working days before the next payment date, and make sure the account is in your own name.

Appeal processing time

Appeal decision times vary. Check your submitted month on the official portal; see our appeal timing guidance for the distinction between submission deadlines and processing targets.

The Constitutional Court cash payment case

Use current SASSA and Postbank notices for payment-service changes. This page does not assert an unverified court-case outcome or a beneficiary count.

Funding and grant-amount updates

April 2026 set the money for the year: the SRD R370 grant stays at R370 a month and is funded to 31 March 2027.

R36.4 billion allocation and the 31 March 2027 end date

For funding or grant-rate changes, use dated DSD and National Treasury publications. The current SRD rate and monthly grant amounts are listed on our grant amounts page.

Permanent SASSA grants from 1 April 2026

Permanent SASSA grants rose from 1 April 2026 in a 3.5% CPI-linked increase. The SRD grant did not get the increase. The South African Government has not announced a new SRD amount.

See the current payment schedule and grant amounts. Your individual SRD payday must be checked in your status result.

Check proposed changes against official notices

This page does not announce a replacement grant without a current primary source. Use the official SRD eligibility and application guidance.

Income disputes and appeal evidence

When income or eligibility is disputed, use the reason on the official monthly record and the appeal process. Do not rely on an unsourced court-case summary.

Income disputes and appeal evidence

Explain the source of disputed deposits and provide accurate supporting evidence through the official appeal process. A court case or a once-off deposit does not by itself establish your eligibility or guarantee that an appeal will succeed.

The January 2026 rumour that the grant was ending

A Facebook and WhatsApp message in January 2026 said the R370 grant was being discontinued. The Department of Social Development denied it: the claim is confirmed false. A similar claim went round in January 2025. Check SASSA's own channels before you share an urgent news post, because these warnings spread fast.

Timeline: from May 2020 to March 2027

The grant began in May 2020 as COVID-19 relief at R350, moved to R370 in April 2024, and now runs to 31 March 2027.

  1. May 2020: the Social Relief of Distress grant starts at R350 during the lockdown.
  2. R350 years: the amount stays at R350 until 31 March 2024.
  3. 1 April 2024: the grant becomes R370 a month.
  4. January 2025: many people still search for "R350"; the new name has not fully caught on.
  5. January 2026: DSD again denies that the grant is being discontinued.
  6. 1 April 2026: permanent grants rise; the SRD stays at R370.
  7. October 2026 MTBPS: budget documents extend the grant one more year beyond March 2027.
  8. 31 March 2027: the funded end date, with no increase.

Current payment dates

A general schedule does not establish your individual SRD payday. The payment page keeps the dated source and any revisions together.
