Official SASSA contacts

These are the official SASSA contact channels we could confirm, each dated, with a warning about the look-alikes that circulate in WhatsApp groups.

The SASSA contacts you can use

SASSA publishes the channels in the table below, and we checked each one on 29 October 2026.

The list is short on purpose. If a number, email address or website is not on this page, we could not confirm it, so we do not publish it.

SassaCheck is an independent service. We are not SASSA and not a government website. We cannot approve, decline or change any grant.

SASSA toll-free number: 0800 60 10 11

Call 0800 60 10 11 when you want to speak to SASSA about a grant by phone.

SASSA publishes this as its toll-free number. Some websites write it as 0800 601 011. It is the same number, written with a different gap.

SASSA's office hours are Monday to Friday, during business hours (confirm availability before calling). Plan your call for those hours.

Checked 29 October 2026.

SASSA WhatsApp number: 082 046 8553

Use 082 046 8553 for SRD questions on WhatsApp. It is the only SASSA WhatsApp number we could confirm.

SASSA publishes this number in its own statement on gov.za. We checked it on 29 October 2026.

Other WhatsApp numbers are shared in groups and on social media and presented as SASSA lines. We could not confirm any of them, so we do not list them. If a number is not 082 046 8553, treat it as unconfirmed and do not send your ID number to it.

SASSA email address: srd@sassa.gov.za

Email srd@sassa.gov.za when you want to put an SRD query in writing.

It is the only SASSA email address we could confirm. We do not publish any other SASSA email address, because we could not check one.

Use email when you want a written record of what you asked and when you asked it. Checked 29 October 2026.

The official SASSA websites

The official SASSA websites are srd.sassa.gov.za for SRD and sassa.gov.za for the agency. Every SASSA link on this page opens a sassa.gov.za address in a new tab.

  • Applying, changing your details and the SRD record: srd.sassa.gov.za ↗, checked 29 October 2026.
  • Your status: srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status ↗, checked 29 October 2026. If you are not sure what the status means, our status meanings hub explains each one.
  • Appeals: srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal ↗, checked 29 October 2026. You appeal each declined month separately, and the appeal goes to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals. Our appeal guide explains the 90 day window.
  • Banking details: start at srd.sassa.gov.za and choose the banking section. We do not publish a deep path for this, checked 29 October 2026.
  • Changing your phone number: start at srd.sassa.gov.za and choose the option to update your details. We do not publish a deep path for this, checked 29 October 2026.

Prefer to check on SASSA's own site? You can run the same check at srd.sassa.gov.za, without us. You need your ID number and the cellphone number you used when you applied.

Is USSD available?

We have not verified a currently working SRD USSD service. Use the official SRD portal or call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 for help.

SASSA customer care landline: 013 574 9428 and 013 574 9363

Call 013 574 9428 or 013 574 9363 for customer care, Monday to Friday, during business hours (confirm availability before calling).

SASSA publishes these two landline numbers in its own statement on gov.za. We checked them on 29 October 2026.

If you do not want to call a landline, the toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 is the other phone option on this page.

There is no SASSA SMS number to check your status

SASSA does not publish an SMS number you can text to check your status, so do not text one that someone sends you.

SASSA sends SMS updates to the number you applied with. Those messages come to you. You do not reply to them to get a status.

If a message tells you to text a number, pay a fee, or send your ID number somewhere to see your status, it is not a SASSA channel on this page. Use the portal or the WhatsApp number instead.

Look-alike numbers and websites

A look-alike is any number, email address or website that copies a SASSA channel but does not come from SASSA.

  • SASSA never charges a fee to check a status. There is no fee, ever.
  • SASSA can send an OTP for you to enter on its official website. Never disclose or forward that OTP to a caller, helper or anyone claiming to be an agent. Never share your bank PIN or password.
  • A real SASSA website ends in sassa.gov.za. Ours is sassacheck.org.za and it does not. We are an independent checker, and we say so on every page. See who runs this site.
  • If someone phones you and says they can release your grant for a fee, put the phone down.
  • If a WhatsApp number is not 082 046 8553, treat it as unconfirmed and do not send your ID number to it.
  • If an email address does not end in sassa.gov.za, it is not a SASSA email address.

What SassaCheck cannot do

SassaCheck cannot change your status, approve or decline a grant, or update your banking details.

Only SASSA can do those things, and only the person who owns the application can ask SASSA to do them. Use the channels on this page for that. We are an independent site and we are not SASSA.

Operator, registration and Information Officer details are available on request. Contact us at hello@sassacheck.org.za.
