SRD Status Check for R370 Payment Dates 2026

SASSA grant application status can be checked online and via SMS. However, checking the SASSA grant online is easier and quicker. It saves time and provides instant results. The official SASSA website is also slow, and it can be down numerous times a day.

That is why you should use our SASSA website to check SRD application status online in no time. Moreover, your SRD R370 grant payment date is also issued with the grant approval status. Unlike other SASSA grants like Disability grant or the Older Persons’ grant, you don’t need to visit the local SASSA office to check SASSA status.

We are using an API-based tool to offer a free and secure SASSA grant status check service. However, we are not associated with SASSA officials.

SASSA Grant Payment Dates 2026/2027 and Payment Status

SASSA pays the permanent grants on three set days each month. National Treasury approved the whole 2026/2027 calendar, so these dates are already fixed to March 2027. There is also a fourth payment day each month for people who have been called in for a grant review or life certification.

SRD R370 Grant Payment Dates

The SRD R370 does not have a calendar you can plan around. SASSA pays it in arrears, usually over about two days near the end of the month, and it announces those two days only a few days before. So nobody can tell you next month’s SRD date in advance, and any site that prints one is guessing.

Check your own status instead. Your payment date appears with your approved status at srd.sassa.gov.za (opens in a new tab), and that is the only date that applies to you.

SASSA Appeal Status Check for SRD Grant Application

If your status said “Declined” and you lodged an appeal, you can check that appeal here. Follow my footsteps to check the status of the SRD appeal:

  4. Enter your South African ID number and your phone number. The DSD site sends an OTP to that phone.
  5. Submit the OTP and check your appeal status.

If you face any issues, you can contact SASSA directly using the helpline and email.

SASSA Status Check Online

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) issued the SRD R370 grant during COVID-19. More than 19 million citizens are using this grant and getting R370 cash from the government of South Africa.

However, after submitting the SRD grant application online, clients need to check their SASSA payment status. In 2026, clients can use many methods to check status and check SASSA Payday.

Check SASSA Application Status Online

When we discuss online methods then we have the following ways to get the grant status.

  • Official SASSA Website
  • Our SASSA Website
  • WhatsApp
  • Moya App
  • GovChat
  • SASSA App

Let’s find out how someone can use these methods to check SASSA grant status online.

1. SRD SASSA Status Check on Official Web Portal:

Before we start the guide, I must say one thing: the official portal stays offline many times a day. Despite of official source to check status, you need to choose an alternate so if this method won’t work for you, then skip to method number 2.

  1. Make a connection with the srd.sassa.gov.za web portal on your device.
  2. Now, click on the “South African ID Holders” option.
  3. Find the option “Check Application Status” and open it.
  4. Enter your phone number exactly the same one that you used during the SRD application process.
  5. Enter your South African ID number.
  6. Click on the “Check Status” button, and a pop-up will appear on your screen with your application status.

2. Our SASSA Status Check Tool:

We are bringing to you a secure and fast tool where you can check the grant application status in no time.

  1. Scroll back to the top of this page, or you can type of webpage URL in your URL bar.
  2. Now enter ID and phone number to get the status in real-time.

3. Check Grant Status Using Moya App:

The Moya App allows users to check their SASSA status easily without using mobile data. It offers free access to SASSA services, making it convenient for beneficiaries to stay updated. With no data costs, Moya ensures affordable, quick, and reliable access to essential government grant information across South Africa.

  1. Open the Moya App and go to the “Discover” section.
  2. Here, look for “Services” and open it.
  3. Now find out “SRD R350 datafree” and open it.
  4. Enter your phone number with your ID number.
  5. Check Status.

4. Check SASSA Grant Application Status on WhatsApp:

WhatsApp is one of the most used chat and video call apps worldwide. It offers a free source to connect with people all around the world. So you can use this app to check SRD grant application status.

  1. Save the SASSA WhatsApp number in your phone, then start a chat. If the number does not work, use srd.sassa.gov.za instead.
  2. Now open your WhatsApp and start a new chat with SASSA.
  3. Send a message “I need to check my status check response”.
  4. You will get a reply from the SASSA officials with a URL to check SRD status.
  5. Follow the link and enter your ID and phone number to get the status.

5. Check SASSA Application Status on GovChat:

GovChat is data-free on select networks, making it accessible to millions who rely on SASSA support without incurring mobile data charges.

  1. Open the webpage www.govchat.org, which is the official website of GovChat.
  2. You will be welcomed with two options. You need to choose “For Citizens”.
  3. Now tap on the “GovChat Now” button. It will display further options:
    1. GovChat Now on Our App
    2. GovChat Now on Messenger
    3. GovChat Now on WhatsApp
  4. Choose the preferred method and check the SASSA status online.

6. Check Your Status on Our Android App:

SASSA has no official app for status checks. Any app that calls itself the SASSA app was made by somebody else. We built our own free Android app, and we say it plainly: it is our app, not a SASSA app.

Get 370 Status Check on Google Play

  • It is free, and it works on Android phones.
  • It shows you the same status that srd.sassa.gov.za shows. It cannot change your application.
  • Do not install any other app just because it has SASSA in the name.
  • SASSA will never ask you for a PIN, an OTP or a payment.

SASSA Status Check – Offline

Now let’s learn about other ways to track grant status. If you don’t have internet access, then you have the following facilities:

  • USSD Code
  • SMS
  • Phone Call

1. Dial SASSA Status Check USSD Code:

  1. Open the dialer on your mobile phone.
  2. Dial *120*3210# or *120*69277#.
  3. Follow the prompts on the screen.
  4. Follow the menu. The USSD line does not return your live status, so use srd.sassa.gov.za for that.
  5. Enter your South African ID number and mobile number when asked.

2. Do Not SMS Your ID Number:

  1. SASSA does not run an SMS status service. No number will text your status back to you.
  2. You may still see 0600 123 456 on other sites. That was GovChat’s line and it no longer handles SRD.
  3. Never text your ID number to a number you were given. An SMS sent to the wrong number cannot be taken back.
  4. SASSA does send you an SMS when your status changes, on the number you applied with. That is one-way, so you do not have to text anything to get it.
  5. For your actual status, use srd.sassa.gov.za or the tool at the top of this page.

3. Use SASSA’s Toll-Free Number for Status Inquiry:

  1. Dial 080 060 1011 from your phone (toll-free).
  2. Follow the voice prompts carefully.
  3. Select the option for “SRD Status” by pressing the corresponding number.
  4. Wait for a SASSA agent to join the call.
  5. The agent will ask for your South African ID number to find your record. SASSA will never ask you for a PIN, an OTP or a payment.
  6. You’ll be asked to enter your South African ID number and registered phone number.

Learn About SRD Status Check Response

While checking your grant approval status, you will see different kinds of status check codes. A SASSA grant beneficiary needs to know the meaning of these responses. So here is the detailed explanation of each status check response.

SASSA Pending Status:

If you see a “Pending” status while checking your SASSA grant approval, it means that your SRD R370 application has been submitted successfully and is currently undergoing verification. This status indicates that SASSA is reviewing your details to ensure everything is correct before proceeding with your grant approval.

In this case, you need to be patient as the verification process can take some time. SASSA will contact you once your application is fully processed or if any additional information is required.

It’s important to check the status regularly, but for now, all you can do is wait until the verification process is complete.

SASSA Status Check Declined:

This status check response is about the rejection of the Social Distress grant. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has declined your SASSA SRD application approval. Reasons behind this rejection can vary, and that is why you need to read about our declined status on our dedicated page.

SASSA Status Check Failed (Identity Verification Failed)

This SASSA status shows that your SASSA SRD application has failed to pass the identity verification. There must be an issue with your identity documents so that SASSA has stopped your grant payment. Fix this in two steps. First check that your ID number and name on the application match your ID book exactly. If they do, lodge an appeal for that month on srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals.

Income Source Identified

SASSA offers the social grant only to those who are either unemployed or earning less than R624 per month. So this SASSA status shows that the applicant is earning more than R624. Your bank account is detected with a monthly salary receipt.

Self-Exclusion Response

This is a status check response from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), indicating that the applicant is not eligible for the payment. This is a separate response from “Income source identified”, so do not treat the two as the same. It means SASSA has decided you do not qualify for that month. If you think the decision is wrong, lodge an appeal for that month on srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals. As a result, the applicant does not meet the financial eligibility criteria required for this grant. S

Referred Status

The Referred status indicates that your application has been successfully completed and submitted to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). It has now been forwarded to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) for further verification. This step is part of the standard application process to confirm your identity and citizenship details before a final decision is made on your eligibility. Please allow time for this verification to be completed.

SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant

The SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant was introduced in May 2020 as an emergency financial support measure by the South African government to assist individuals affected by the economic impact of the COVID-19 lockdown. Launched at the height of the pandemic, the grant aimed to provide temporary relief to millions of unemployed South Africans who had no other source of income.

Initially, the monthly payment was set at R350, offering basic support during a time of widespread job losses and uncertainty. As of now, the SASSA SRD grant amount has been increased to R370 to help keep pace with rising living costs.

The SASSA SRD Grant has become a vital lifeline for approximately 19 million people across the country, helping to alleviate poverty and provide dignity to vulnerable individuals.

SASSA SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria

Age Requirement: You must be between 18 and 59 years old.

How to Lodge an SASSA Appeal for Declined or Failed SASSA Status?

SASSA uses a secure and strict verification system to run the whole grant distribution. That is why SASSA rejects millions of SRD grant applications each month that do not qualify for the approval criterion.

However, those who think that they are eligible but still got a grant decline decision can use the SASSA appeal application. In this way, they can appeal to the Department of Social Development (DSD). If your application status is declined or failed, then you should follow my appeal guide mentioned below.

Step 1: Find the Reason for Declining the Application

Your first task is to go and check SRD status so you can find out the exact reason for the payment decline for the SRD grant. One of the most famous reasons are:

  • Identity verification failed
  • Income source identified
  • Self-Exclusion Response Found

Once you have noted down your reason for failure of the SASSA application, you can proceed to the appeal process.

Step 2: Visit DSD SASSA Appeal Portal

The Department of Social Development (DSD) will accept your appeal and verify your appeal status. You need to visit the DSD appeal portal at srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals/appeal. Once you land on this page, you can start the appeal application procedure.

Step 3: Lodge the Appeal for SRD Grant

The final step is to lodge the appeal. You need to enter your phone number inside the appeal tool and then get an OTP to verify your phone number. Provide the OTP and fill out the appeal application form.

Choose the reason for the declined status and then submit the appeal request online. You do not get a case number. To check the appeal later, go back to srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals and use your ID number and phone number again.

Lodge your appeal within 30 days of the decline, and never later than 90 days. Lodge a separate appeal for every month that was declined, or that month stays declined. The tribunal then takes 60 to 90 days to decide.

How to Get SASSA Payment After the Approval?

You need to have a bank account if you want to get the payment via bank deposit. However, if you don’t have a bank account, you can choose other methods like Pick n Pay and Shoprite retail stores to get paid.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to get the SASSA grant payment.

Get R370 Payment Via Bank Transfer:

For this purpose, you need to visit the SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za and then choose “South African ID Card Holder”.

You will navigate to the new page where you need to find “Change banking details”. Open this option and follow the steps:

  1. Enter your bank account details:
  2. Account number
  3. Branch code
  4. Branch Code
  5. Now choose the name of a bank like Postbank or TymeBank, etc.
  6. Save these details and get an OTP on your phone number to verify your request.
  7. Once you provide the OTP, you will get a response that your banking details have been received and will be updated soon.

SASSA checks the new account before it uses it. Keep watching your status, because the change only shows once SASSA has verified the account.

Get R370 Payment Via Pick n Pay Retail Store

Those who don’t have a bank account can choose the Pick n Pay or Shoprite reatil stores to get the SASSA money. Here is how to use this method.

  1. Check your SRD status and find out your payment date.
  2. Go to Pick n Pay or Shoprite retail store to get your payment.
  3. Show your ID and pass the biometric verification.
  4. Collect your cash payment from the desk and get the receipt as well.

SASSA Status Check is Approved, But R370 Payment is Not Received

If your SASSA status is approved but you are still waiting for your R370 payment, don’t worry. Here are possible reasons why you haven’t received your money yet:

Payment Date Not Assigned Yet

Even if your application is approved, SASSA might not have given you a payment date yet. You need to wait for your payment date to show on the status check.

Bank Details Are Wrong or Missing

If your bank account number or payment method is incorrect or not updated, SASSA cannot send the money. Make sure your bank details are correct on the SASSA system.

Delays at the Bank

Sometimes your bank takes an extra day or two to show the money. Post offices are not part of this any more, so do not go to one to wait for your grant.

SASSA Is Processing Many Payments

SASSA pays millions of people. If they are too busy or the system is slow, your payment might take longer to arrive.

Your Payment Was Reversed

If there was a problem sending your money (like a closed account), the payment may have been sent back to SASSA. You will need to update your details and wait for a new payment date.

Tip: Keep checking your status regularly to see if a payment date has been added.

Why has my SRD Application Failed or been Declined?

SASSA can decline or reject an SRD application if it finds that the application is not fulfilling the eligibility rules. Here are some of the most common reasons that can cancel your grant application.

SASSA cannot Verify Your Identity

SASSA checks your ID with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). If your details don’t match, they can’t approve your application.

You Are Getting a Salary

If money from a job is going into your account, SASSA thinks you are working and earning more than the limit allowed.

You Are Already Getting Another Grant or Financial Help

If you are receiving any other SASSA grant (like a child grant) or financial support from NSFAS or UIF, you may not qualify.

Your Bank Shows Too Much Money

If more than R624 per month is going into your account, SASSA may see you as not needing the R370 grant.

You Are Registered for UIF

If your name is still on the UIF system, even if you’re not getting UIF payments, SASSA may decline your application.

You Did Not Confirm Your Details or Missed the Reapplication

Sometimes you need to reapply or confirm your details every few months. If you miss this step, your application will fail.

You Are a Government Employee or Registered Business Owner

If you are working for the government or have a business in your name, SASSA might think you are not in financial need.
